Shinjuku Takashimaya’s first wagashi event, “Wagashi Spirit,” held to commemorate its 30th anniversary, will run from 1 to 6 October, bringing together approximately 120 wagashi shops from all 47 prefectures. Limited-edition products, desserts and workshops will be featured.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Shinjuku Takashimaya, its first wagashi event, “Wagashi Spirit,” will be held. Wagashi shops from across Japan will gather at the venue on the 11th floor, offering a wide range of activities including live demonstrations, eat-in service, desserts and talk shows. The event runs from 1 to 6 October 2026, with different offerings on each floor.
Wagashi made with figs are being highlighted as featured products, in an effort by wagashi shops to adapt figs, commonly used in Western confectionery, for wagashi. Tastings will explore how the products pair with matcha, sencha, Japanese black tea and hojicha, while the venue is scheduled to offer a wide variety of wagashi alongside limited-edition products.
