Google announced the Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5, highlighting its Gemini Intelligence AI features, which are designed to encourage use without looking at the screen. It also explained its pricing strategy, which places emphasis on the Japanese market.
Google held a launch event at its office in Shibuya, Tokyo, announcing the Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch 5. While the new devices feature an upgraded Tensor G6 processor, improved durability and enhanced camera performance, the focus of the briefing was on how to integrate the Gemini Intelligence suite of AI features into everyday life.
Google explained that its vision is to reduce the number of times people need to open their smartphone screens, giving them more time for their daily lives. Rather than simply adding to the new Pixel's specifications, the features focus on increasing the number of situations in which users can operate the device without looking at the screen.
HiLight, which is exclusive to Pro models, uses LEDs built around the rear camera to convey notifications through colors and patterns of light, even when the smartphone is placed face down. When users speak to Gemini, the system shows the phone's current status through color, and users can also assign colors to incoming calls from specific contacts.
At the briefing following the launch event, Google explained its pricing strategy with the Japanese market in mind and referred to the rollout of the Pixel 11 series and related devices in Japan.
