Choi Tae-won (崔泰源), chairman of South Korea's SK Group, visited Sendai and attended the Japan-Korea Chambers of Commerce and Industry Summit. Although cooperation in future fields, including AI and semiconductors, was discussed at the meeting, Chairman Choi made no mention of semiconductor plant construction in Miyagi Prefecture, and the subject was not raised as part of the meeting's proceedings.
Some reports had stated that SK hynix, a subsidiary of SK Group, was considering building a plant in Miyagi Prefecture. However, according to explanations from people involved, there was nothing in Chairman Choi's remarks touching on the matter, and Miyagi Prefecture also says it has not received any specific information at this stage. Miyagi Prefecture has expressed the view that SK is considering building a plant at the Second Sendai Northern Core Industrial Park in Ōhira Village.
In the third section, the governor of Miyagi Prefecture and Chairman Choi attended separate meetings, but it is believed that there was no time to discuss the subject of plant construction in Miyagi. Miyagi Prefecture has indicated that it will carefully assess SK's intentions, also taking into account the earlier collapse of a plant project planned by Taiwan's major semiconductor manufacturer PSMC.
