Release Candidates for iOS 27.2 and other operating systems were released on 20 October Japan time, with the final versions expected around the end of October. Japanese-language Siri AI has been added as a major new feature, while HomePod will support Lock Controls on all models to control top-surface interactions.
Release Candidates (RCs) in the 27.2 series were released on 20 October Japan time, bringing the seven operating systems for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Vision Pro and HomePod to the same RC release. With the final versions approaching, the main updates are Japanese-language Siri AI and improvements to HomePod controls.
Apple has not announced a date for the final releases at this stage, but they are widely expected between 27 October and the early hours of 31 October. Overseas media reports point to the same timing, making this a likely outlook for Japan time.
iOS 27.2's main update is expected to be Japanese-language Siri AI. It is expected to be available on iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 and later models, while other models will continue to use the existing Siri. Profile switching in the TV app and new FaceTime features are also included.
For HomePod, Lock Controls will be introduced on all models, adding a setting that prevents the speaker from playing when its top surface is touched. Sound Glow will also be available on the current HomePod and second-generation HomePod and HomePod mini, while four-device surround sound must be configured using a pair of the same model.
On Mac, expected improvements in macOS 27.2 include a new design for the screen-brightness and volume sliders, as well as touch controls in some apps.
