The Nikkei Stock Average rose sharply from the previous day in morning trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on the 28th, reaching ¥64,067.10 at the morning close. The gain was ¥798.73, or 1.26%.
Semiconductor stocks had a significant impact on the Nikkei's rise, with stocks including Advantest and Tokyo Electron bought. At one point, the Nikkei's gain came close to ¥1,000.
The Nikkei's rise was also apparently supported by gains in semiconductor-related stocks in the US market the previous day and by the rise in the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI). Overseas market movements and AI-related stocks will remain in focus going forward.
