In the Tokyo stock market on the 6th, the Nikkei 225 rose sharply, closing at ¥70,683.98, up ¥737.12 from the previous day, at a level approaching the June high. The index continued to trade near its high during the morning session, while buying spread into the afternoon and it closed almost at the day's high.
Among individual stocks, Advantest, Fujikura, Recruit Holdings, TDK, Fast Retailing and Shin-Etsu Chemical rose. Meanwhile, SoftBank Group, Kioxia Holdings, Tokyo Electron, Kyocera and KOKUSAI ELECTRIC fell.
Across the market, 1,153 stocks rose and 350 fell, producing a broad-based advance in which approximately 80% of stocks gained. The advance-decline ratio was 96.51%, a level that did not yet indicate significant overheating.
A firm US market and continued yen depreciation against the dollar also provided a backdrop, supporting export-related stocks. Whether the Nikkei 225 can maintain the ¥70,000 level became a focus, and depending on subsequent market developments, attention was drawn to the possibility that upward momentum could continue.
