According to Axios, payments giant Visa is continuing negotiations to acquire Fireblocks, with the price said to be approximately $2.5 billion. The talks are reportedly approaching their final stages, according to people familiar with the matter.
Fireblocks provides technology supporting the management and transfer of digital assets by financial institutions and companies. In addition to custody, it handles infrastructure for transferring and settling stablecoins linked to fiat currencies.
Digital asset companies in Japan are also exploring the use of its technology, and a strategic partnership and joint study with Intertrade have been reported.
Fireblocks, however, has denied the acquisition rumors, saying they are “not factual at this time.” Visa declined to comment to Axios, and it remains unclear whether the acquisition will be completed.
