The South Korean government is considering its response after the Japanese government imposed provisional anti-dumping duties on steel products from South Korea. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to submit additional written representations, while POSCO and KG Steel have submitted rebuttal materials.
The Japanese government has reportedly imposed provisional anti-dumping duties in the 20% to 30% range on steel products from South Korea. The duties will apply through 7 December, with a final decision expected thereafter. The Japanese measures target steel strip and sheet.
The South Korean government has begun responding, with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy sending the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry a letter expressing strong concern about Japan's investigation methods and the process used to determine the provisional tariff rates. It plans to submit additional written representations.
The steel industry has voiced dissatisfaction, calling the Japanese government's preliminary decision unreasonable, and South Korea is pursuing a response in light of the difficulties facing the industry. POSCO and KG Steel have also submitted rebuttal and explanatory materials to the Japanese government.
