SCREEN Holdings has invested in Atmis, a Kyoto University startup developing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), acquiring shares by subscribing to the company's private placement capital increase.
Atmis was established in 2015 based on the research of Kitagawa Susumu (北川進), a Distinguished Professor, and relocated its headquarters and laboratories from Kyoto to Kobe in 2023.
MOFs are next-generation materials capable of separating, adsorbing and recovering a wide range of gases, and are expected to contribute to energy-saving applications. Companies including Daikin and Kubota have also invested in Atmis.
In recognition of his research, Kitagawa Susumu (北川進) has at times been reported in 2025 as a Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate affiliated with Kyoto University.
Through this investment, Atmis may work with SCREEN to advance product development using MOFs.
