The fifth-generation Mitsubishi Pajero has been officially unveiled in Japan as a simultaneous global launch. The full model change comes after approximately 20 years, with the vehicle scheduled to roll out from Japan to Australia and more than 100 other countries and regions.
The new Pajero features an entirely redesigned body structure and adopts a ladder-frame chassis. This is expected to improve body rigidity. The front and rear suspension uses a double-wishbone design, while the rear adopts a newly developed 5-link setup. The vehicle is equipped with 18-inch disc brakes.
The engine is a 2.4L inline-four diesel shared with the Destinator, featuring a variable turbocharger. It produces approximately 204 hp and 470–480Nm of maximum torque, and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The drivetrain is the Super Select 4WD-II four-wheel-drive system, with 7 driving modes available.
The cabin has two 14.3-inch large screens, while the standard setup uses 12.3-inch screens. The vehicle has three rows of seats for 7 occupants. Available premium equipment includes a Yamaha 12-speaker audio system, three-zone automatic climate control, seat cooling and acoustic glass.
There have also been reports that a hybrid powertrain could be introduced in the future. No official announcement has yet been made regarding sales plans for the Vietnamese market. The vehicle is reportedly to be manufactured in Thailand and, if it meets the requirements for ATIGA, could be eligible for a preferential import tariff of 0%.
