Mitsubishi Motors has unveiled the new Pajero to the world for the first time. At 4920mm in length, it is about the same size as its predecessor and accommodates 7 people across 3 rows. The company has announced plans to move production from its Gifu plant to a plant in Thailand.
Mitsubishi Motors unveiled the new Pajero to the world for the first time today. The model is making its comeback approximately 5 years after sales of the fourth-generation predecessor ended in 2021.
The new Pajero adopts a specially developed ladder frame. Its overall length is 4920mm, overall width is 1925mm, overall height is 1910mm and wheelbase is 2870mm. While its length is about the same as that of the predecessor’s long-wheelbase model, the interior dimensions have been increased. It has 3 rows of seats and accommodates 7 people. The exterior retains a predominantly horizontal design while adopting new design elements at the front. The interior features two large 14.3-inch displays, along with a center instrument cluster whose design updates the triple-gauge layout used in the second-generation Pajero in a modern style.
The powertrain combines a 2.4L 4N16 turbocharged clean-diesel engine with a newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission. Maximum output is 150kW (approximately 204ps), while maximum torque is 480Nm (470Nm depending on the specification). The vehicle also adopts the S-AWC vehicle dynamics integrated control system.
Production had previously been carried out at a plant in Gifu Prefecture, but the new model is scheduled to be produced at a plant in Thailand. The company says it plans to launch the model in Thailand, Japan and Australia in fiscal 2026, followed by expansion into approximately 100 countries worldwide, including the ASEAN region, Central and South America, and the Middle East.
