Kioxia, a major semiconductor memory maker, announced on the 30th that it would absorb and merge its wholly owned subsidiary Kioxia Iwate effective 1 April 2027. The transaction covers Kioxia Iwate, which handles production at the Kitakami Plant in Kitakami, and will allow the parent company to consolidate its production structure and improve efficiency after the merger.
Kioxia’s main production sites, including the Kitakami Plant, are the Yokkaichi Plant and the Kitakami Plant. The company is gradually expanding capacity at the Kitakami Plant and announced in August that it would build a new manufacturing building. The absorption-merger is viewed as part of this expansion plan, with the aim of strengthening production coordination and sharing management expertise.
The announcement is intended to strengthen the memory supply structure and improve efficiency by integrating production operations in Kitakami. Further disclosures are expected regarding the specific integration schedule and scope of the impact.
