ASICS set a share buyback program with a limit of 20 million shares and ¥70 billion, representing a portion of its total shares outstanding, and simultaneously decided to cancel 25 million treasury shares effective 30 September. ASICS (7936.T) announced a resolution to establish a share buyback program with a limit of 20 million shares and ¥70 billion, equivalent to 2.82% of its total shares outstanding. The acquisition period runs from the 10th through 31 March 2027, with purchases to be made on the market.
The company also decided to cancel 25 million treasury shares effective 30 September, reducing the number of shares outstanding after the cancellation. This is expected to boost earnings per share.
ASICS has continued to deliver strong results, including raising its fiscal 2026 earnings forecast in August, and will conduct the buyback as part of efforts to enhance shareholder returns. As share buybacks by companies with strong earnings continue to increase, more companies are seeking to improve supply and demand and raise ROE.
ASICS shares surged in afternoon trading following the announcement, reaching ¥4,153, up ¥104 from the previous day, as of 13:34.
The new acquisition program was established separately from the 25 million shares scheduled for cancellation. While the future treatment of the shares remains undecided, further cancellations may also be possible.
