Amazon.com has operated e-commerce sites worldwide, primarily in the United States, while expanding its cloud business through AWS. Following founder Bezos (ベゾス)'s departure, the company has been led by CEO Jassy (ジャシー), and has deepened its partnership with Anthropic in recent years following acquisitions including Whole Foods and MGM.
Amazon.com has established operations in Japan, Europe, China and elsewhere, including the United States, where it operates its e-commerce business, and also provides AWS cloud services. Online retail and cloud services are its core businesses.
The company expanded beyond its original book-selling business and came to offer products across a wide range of categories, including consumer electronics and household goods. It has expanded through M&A and later began pursuing partnerships in the AI field.
The management structure has also changed. Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos (ジェフ・ベゾス) stepped down in 2021, and Andy Jassy (アンディ・ジャシー), who had headed AWS, became CEO. Since 2023, the company has pursued a strategic partnership with Anthropic and deepened the relationship, including by announcing an additional investment of up to $25 billion in April 2026.
Looking ahead, attention is focused on advancing strategic cooperation in AI, including through stronger relationships with Anthropic and other companies.
