The Nikkei average rose as high as 804 points from the previous day in the morning session on the Tokyo stock market, with buying spreading mainly across semiconductor-related stocks.
At the morning close, the Nikkei average stood at 66,318.14, up 804.15 points from the previous day. Buying focused on semiconductor-related stocks, supporting the broader market advance.
Among the major stock indices, other indicators posted only limited moves compared with the rise in the Nikkei average. Semiconductor-related stocks, however, made a relatively large contribution, driving the broader market higher.
