Former Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi (岩屋 毅) held a press conference in his home city of Beppu, Oita Prefecture, explaining the circumstances of his visit to China and again calling on the Japanese government to improve Japan-China relations.
On 28 September, Iwaya Takeshi (岩屋 毅), in his capacity as chairman of the Japan-China Association for the Promotion of International Trade, met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. Wang Yi said that Japan-China relations were once again facing a difficult phase and called for their normalization.
At the press conference, Iwaya said he felt the Chinese side’s response had been severe, but that both sides shared the recognition that improving Japan-China relations was necessary. He called on the Chinese side to open a channel of communication between Japan and China and on the Japanese government to continue efforts to improve relations.
