A Japanese business group in Taiwan published a white paper calling for improvements to the investment environment. A survey of approximately 500 member companies received 368 responses, with respondents calling for greater transparency and faster administrative procedures.
The Taipei Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry published an annual white paper on the 7th calling on the government to improve the investment environment. With Taiwan's economy booming, led by the semiconductor-related sector, it said that greater transparency in administrative procedures and flexibility during busy periods are needed to encourage further entry by foreign-affiliated companies.
The group compiled its requests from a survey of approximately 500 member companies, which received 368 responses. Specifically, it called for swift and transparent licensing and approval procedures, particularly for public works projects, as well as greater flexibility in the treatment of working hours, which it said diverges from actual conditions in busy industries such as the semiconductor-related sector.
The requests also included stabilizing electricity supply, as the spread of AI is expected to cause a sharp increase in power demand. These requests are positioned as measures to strengthen efforts to attract foreign-affiliated companies.
