A survey by ONWARD HOLDINGS CO.,LTD. found that annual clothing expenditure by working people in their 60s was approximately ¥31,765, exceeding the figures for people in their 40s and 50s. A survey by Halmek found that monthly clothing purchases by people in their 60s were high at ¥4,546.
According to a survey by ONWARD HOLDINGS CO.,LTD., estimated annual clothing expenditure by working people in their 60s was ¥31,765, exceeding the figure for people in their 40s and 50s and reaching approximately 2.4 times the figure for non-working people in their 60s.
Separately, a survey by Halmek found that monthly clothing purchases were ¥4,546 for people in their 60s and ¥3,201 for those in their 50s, with the figure higher among people in their 60s. These data suggest that it is difficult to assess clothing demand based on age alone.
Supplementary data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ Labour Force Survey show that the employment rate for people aged 65 and over was 26.0%, while the number of employed people reached a record high of 9.43 million. This may be affecting clothing demand among “power seniors.”
The fashion industry is increasingly focusing on connections with society, such as lifestyles and opportunities for face-to-face interaction, rather than age categories. Some have also pointed to strong interest among people in their 70s.
