KDDI subsidiary Mobicom Mongolia successfully completed an outdoor Open RAN trial, deploying SA 5G in the Sub6 C-band in rural areas with support from MTI and REIGN Technology. The trial reportedly confirmed high-speed, highly reliable communications.
KDDI consolidated subsidiary Mobicom Mongolia announced that it had successfully completed an Open RAN field test with the cooperation of MTI and REIGN Technology. The test involved Open RAN radio and control equipment, and NR (5G) was adopted as the radio access technology.
The field-test RAN used a standalone (SA) configuration and the Sub6 C-band. The trial was conducted in a rural area for fixed communications.
The test confirmed the provision of high-speed, highly reliable 5G using Open RAN technology. Mobicom was responsible for providing the equipment installation site, power supply and heating facilities, as well as carrying out the installation work.
MTI provided Open RAN-compatible radio equipment, while REIGN Technology provided the centralized and distributed units, including the control equipment. MTI receives grants from U.S. government agencies for a total of 5 types of radio equipment to be provided to 4 mobile network operators.
