ASICS announced that it will conduct a share buyback of up to ¥70 billion, with a limit of 20 million shares. The repurchase period runs from 10 September through 31 March 2027.
ASICS disclosed that it will repurchase its own shares to enhance shareholder value, conducting a share buyback of up to ¥70 billion. The number of shares to be repurchased is 20 million, equivalent to approximately 2.82% of the total number of issued shares excluding treasury shares.
The repurchase period will run from 10 September 2024 through 31 March 2027. Chairman and CEO Hirota Yasuhito (廣田康人) indicated that the company intends to respond flexibly in light of the current share price level.
The share price declined from its mid-August peak of ¥5,281 and stood at approximately ¥4,000 as of 13:00 on 9 September. Although ASICS raised its earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending December 2026 in August, the decline is thought to have been driven by a sense that the positive factors had already been priced in, as well as the impact of overseas trends.
The purpose of the share buyback is to signal to the stock market the company’s confidence in its earnings and support a recovery in the share price. It is intended as a measure to be taken when the share price declines.
