Harima Chemicals Group plans to build a new plant and research building for semiconductor resist resins at its Kakogawa Manufacturing Site in Kakogawa, Hyogo Prefecture, doubling production capacity. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with completion scheduled for June 2027 and mass production targeted to start in June 2028.
Harima Chemicals Group has announced plans to build a new plant and research building for semiconductor resist resins at its Kakogawa Manufacturing Site, expanding its production capabilities. The company aims to double total production capacity from current levels. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with completion expected in June 2027 and mass production targeted to start in June 2028.
The new plant will be a two-story steel-frame building covering approximately 750 m². It will feature a cleanroom for next-generation semiconductors and high-precision automated control equipment. An analysis laboratory for in-process inspections and a raw-material storage facility will also be included to stabilize raw-material quality and improve logistics efficiency. The design will also provide scope for future expansion through additional equipment installations.
The adjoining new research building, Central Research Institute Building No. 3, will be a three-story reinforced-concrete building covering approximately 1,400 m². It will include an ultra-clean cleanroom and laboratories dedicated to materials development. Research will be conducted as an integrated operation spanning the exploration of research themes, materials design and pilot production, with the aim of developing new materials that respond quickly to customer needs and bringing products to market rapidly.
The investment is intended to ensure a stable supply of semiconductor resist resins and improve productivity. The Kakogawa Manufacturing Site will serve as the core facility, with the design also accommodating future expansion of production equipment.
