ASICS announced on the 9th that it would buy back up to ¥70 billion of its own shares. The program covers up to 20 million shares, equivalent to approximately 2.82% of total shares outstanding. The buyback period will run through 31 March 2027. The buyback is intended to strengthen shareholder returns.
At a press conference held the same day, Chairman and CEO Hirota Yasuhito (広田康人) said that the market determines the share price, while indicating that he believed the current level was far removed from an appropriate valuation. He emphasized the view that share buybacks are an effective means of increasing shareholder value.
ASICS also announced plans to cancel 25 million treasury shares on the 30th. The move is intended to dispel concerns about potential share dilution. For the fiscal year ending December 2026, consolidated net profit is expected to rise 22% from the previous fiscal year to ¥120 billion, while revenue is projected to increase 29% to ¥1.05 trillion.
