Japan Post Insurance has set a target of doubling cumulative impact investments to ¥100 billion by the end of FY2028. The cumulative total was approximately ¥50.4 billion as of the end of FY2025, and the company has invested in businesses seeking to address shortages of care workers and reduce the burden of caregiving. Going forward, it plans to focus on fund quality and identify and develop promising investment opportunities.
The head of the company's Investment Planning Department, Kobayashi (小林), said the company wants to provide value by enabling customers' money to contribute both to solving social issues and generating investment returns. The investment period is expected to be approximately 10 years, and around 13 years at the longest, with returns targeted at levels equivalent to those of ordinary VC investments.
Healthcare-related investments account for a large share of investment areas, while regional and social projects are relatively limited, it was said. One example is 坂ノ途中, which addresses the challenges of mass consumption and waste through a model that purchases vegetables from organic farmers and delivers them to general consumers.
