Mazda has introduced an update that gives both the CX-30 and CX-5 the same e-SKYACTIV G 2.5 engine. The article also covers the fact that the higher-grade versions of both models are priced at ¥3.52 million, as well as trends among their customer segments identified at a press event.
The July update removed the four-cylinder diesel from the catalogue and advanced the conversion of the 2.5L gasoline engine to a mild hybrid. In the Japanese market, the CX-30 and CX-5 will now be offered with the same e-SKYACTIV G 2.5 powertrain configuration.
The CX-30's higher-grade 25 Air Edition and the CX-5's mid-grade G are both priced at ¥3.52 million. According to data gathered at the press event, the CX-5 has a higher proportion of male buyers. The CX-5 is more popular among people in their 30s to 50s, while the CX-30 is centred on people in their 50s and 60s.
Exterior styling is the top purchase consideration for both models. For the CX-5, it is followed by passenger comfort and interior design, while for the CX-30, interior design and body color follow. The CX-30 is often used by 1–2 people, while the CX-5 has strong support among family buyers, according to the analysis.
Sales-floor data indicates that the CX-30 25 Air Edition accounts for 60% of the total, and that Aero Gray, the model's signature color, has also been well received. Nearly half of CX-5 buyers are switching from another automaker's brand, and some believe that Mazda's use of Ayase Haruka (綾瀬はるか) helped attract younger users.
