Murata Manufacturing announced plans to more than double MLCC production capacity by fiscal 2030. It will invest ¥1 trillion in total to strengthen its domestic and overseas locations in an integrated manner and respond to rising demand.
Murata Manufacturing announced that it will invest approximately ¥1 trillion over the five-year period from fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2030 to expand MLCC production capacity globally. The investment will comprise approximately ¥350 billion for buildings and approximately ¥650 billion for production equipment, with new construction and expansion projects planned at domestic and overseas locations. MLCC sales in fiscal 2030 are targeted at more than double fiscal 2025 levels.
In Japan, approximately ¥150 billion will be invested in Okayama Murata Manufacturing. Construction of a new production building is scheduled to begin in April 2027, with completion planned for the end of 2028. The company plans to establish a domestic production system spanning 3 locations, including Okayama and its existing sites, and aims to create employment for approximately 1,500 to 2,000 people by 2030.
The company also plans to build a new factory for electronic components, including MLCCs, in Yasugi, Shimane Prefecture. Details including the construction start date, completion date and investment amount will be announced once decided. Izumo Murata Manufacturing will also continue expanding production capacity at its existing site.
Overseas, the company plans to build a new building at its local subsidiary in Thailand, targeting completion in 2027. At its Philippine site, it plans to install production equipment and infrastructure in unused areas of existing buildings, with operations scheduled to begin in 2027. The company will continue introducing production equipment and expanding capacity each year at its sites in Japan, ASEAN and China.
The investment is intended not only to establish a supply system capable of meeting growing demand from AI data centers, but also to address demand across a broad range of markets, including edge devices, mobility and robotics. The company will use its technological foundation, spanning materials development to production engineering, to improve MLCC performance and ensure stable supply.
