NTN and Yazaki Corporation have launched co-creation activities for new manufacturing methods using AI and robotics. As a first step, NTN’s in-house-developed robot module “i-WRIST” will be installed at Yazaki Corporation’s innovation facility “Innovation Hub-REN (錬).” The aim is to validate the automation of visual inspection and pursue automation of inspection processes and the creation of new value.
“i-WRIST” is a robot module capable of high-speed positioning with smooth, wrist-like movements. The “i-WRIST Type-U <compact model>” installed this time will be evaluated for its effectiveness as a high-speed unit for visual inspection, and the possibility of applying it to actual processes using Yazaki Corporation’s inspection workpieces will be examined.
Going forward, the two companies aim to further automate manufacturing processes by combining the technology with AI-based image recognition and other technologies, while advancing toward next-generation manufacturing using physical AI. NTN intends to pursue new application possibilities through co-creation with Yazaki Corporation.
