GAZOO Racing (GR) and Yaskawa Electric jointly developed AI-enabled autonomous robot production technology, beginning deployment at the Gamagori GR Kart Workshop in September 2026. Based on expertise in the SFA arc-welding method, the next-generation automated robot autonomously recognises, makes decisions and makes corrections during welding operations.
GR and Yaskawa Electric jointly developed AI-enabled autonomous robot production technology by drawing on expertise in the SFA arc-welding method developed in motorsports operations. The initiative aims to substantially reduce the time required to produce roll cages and improve quality, and its implementation at production sites is under way.
The new technology is designed to enable robots to autonomously recognise, make decisions and make corrections during the production of automotive components, and is also being applied to the production of GR Kart frames. As a result of the SFA method, roll-cage production has been reduced to 3 days, and the method has also been used in vehicles in the Super Taikyu Series.
Deployment is scheduled to begin in September 2026, and practical implementation at the Gamagori GR Kart Workshop is expected to contribute to lower production costs. The initiative aims to further advance on-site implementation while carrying forward Toyota's jidoka philosophy and its approach to building quality based on abnormality detection and defect elimination.
