The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In Japan, sales of products including the “炎舞炊き” rice cooker series and humidifiers remained firm, and progress was made in passing on higher import costs through pricing. The increase in revenue and improvement in the gross profit margin more than offset higher SG&A expenses and the impact of foreign exchange, resulting in higher operating profit. Although results to date have exceeded expectations, the full-year forecasts were left unchanged after conservatively taking into account soaring naphtha and raw material prices due to the situation in the Middle East, as well as cost increases caused by the weaker yen.
