Factors Behind Changes in Business Performance

In the Newbuilding business, the transition to a product-mix structure progressed smoothly. In addition to the benefits of cost-reduction initiatives carried out jointly by the parties involved in design, manufacturing and procurement, the continued depreciation of the yen resulted in higher revenue and profit. In the Repair Vessels business, the volume of domestic naval vessel repair work declined substantially. Net income attributable to owners of the parent decreased because income taxes and other taxes increased by ¥4,815 million year on year.

The reasons the company gives

The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers.

The Newbuilding business posted higher revenue and profit as a result of the transition to a product-mix structure, cost-reduction initiatives and the continued depreciation of the yen. In contrast, the Repair Vessels business posted lower revenue and profit because the volume of domestic naval vessel repair work declined substantially. Net income attributable to owners of the parent decreased because income taxes and other taxes increased by ¥4,815 million year on year. The outlook for the next fiscal year incorporates inflation, higher labor costs and the tax burden, among other factors.
