「Specifications for high-resolution electricity measurement finalized」
The company added that the measurement specifications for next-generation smart meters had been finalized, clarifying the basis for service deployment using those meters. - FY2026-H1AdvancedAnnual report
「Kansai Transmission and Distribution, Inc. began installing next-generation (second-generation) smart meters on 5 January 2026. Chubu Electric Power Grid Co., Inc. has also announced that it will begin phased installation of next-generation (second-generation) smart meters from January 2026. The deployment phase for next-generation (second-generation) smart meters is therefore beginning in earnest across major areas of Japan. Nationwide full-scale deployment is planned over approximately 10 years from fiscal 2025 onward. These meters are positioned as infrastructure enabling the enhancement of DER (distributed energy resource) control and DR through high-frequency, high-precision electricity data and IoT routes.」
Installation of next-generation smart meters has begun or is being phased in across the major Kansai and Chubu areas, with nationwide deployment over approximately 10 years from fiscal 2025 onward becoming more concrete. - FY2024First statedAnnual report
「This will dramatically increase the volume of information that can be obtained from electricity data through next-generation smart meters compared with current smart meters. The value of the information derived from analyzing that data will also expand discontinuously in both scale and scope, making it possible to create new value, such as enabling electricity consumers to enjoy an IoT-enabled lifestyle at lower cost, in addition to optimizing electricity-use efficiency.」
With deployment from 2026 in view, the Group is advancing applications including compatible measurement methods, anomaly detection, visualization, monitoring and mid-level data. It also refers to the possibility of covering up to 83.17 million meters.
