The reasons the company gives
The company's own explanation, not something inferred from the numbers. In the strawberry fruit and produce business, high temperatures in Hokkaido and other areas, delays in planting and growth of early-season strawberries, limited supplies of fruit for commercial use, and lower handling volumes, mainly among major customers, from the beginning of the year affected results. In the potato business, in addition to supply shortages caused by high temperatures, drought and a reduction in planted acreage, the company was unable to fully pass higher procurement prices on to selling prices. In the transportation business, sales increased following a review of contracted operations, but profit declined due to higher outsourcing costs.
