Autech Japan developed the March 12SR based on Nissan Motor’s third-generation March and launched it as a special-edition model engineered for higher performance. The engine, suspension, exhaust system and ECU were all tuned.
On 15 October 2003, Nissan Motor launched the March 12SR, a sports model based on the third-generation (K12) March. The 12SR was a special-edition model extensively tuned from the engine internals through the intake and exhaust systems to the ECU, developed by Autech Japan.
In addition to the third-generation March on which the March 12SR was based, the model featured improvements to its suspension and components to enhance its sporting character, as well as fundamental performance upgrades including a strengthened engine and exhaust system.
The first-generation March (K10) debuted in 1982, with its design handled by Giorgetto Giugiaro. It was powered by a 1.0L aluminum inline-four SOHC engine and used front-wheel drive. In 1992, it transitioned to the second generation (K11), which brought a larger cabin and improved driving stability.
The second-generation March offered a choice of two engines producing 58 PS/8.1 kg-m and 79 PS/10.8 kg-m, and earned global recognition, including being named European Car of the Year.
