NEC and Nippon Sharyo announced that they had jointly developed a VR application intended to improve the efficiency and quality of railway rolling-stock design and train personnel in maintenance work. The application has also been applied to design reviews for actual rolling-stock development, with further use expected.
NEC and Nippon Sharyo announced on 13 October that they had jointly developed a VR application intended to improve railway rolling-stock design efficiency and design quality and support railway operators' operations.
The VR application reportedly enables users to check a vehicle's structure and equipment layout in a virtual space, as well as simulate maintenance work, train operation procedures and cleaning work for railway operators.
The two companies have already applied the application to design reviews in the development of actual railway rolling stock and are advancing its practical use.
Further use is expected across the fields of design, maintenance and training.
