The Nikkei Average rebounded for the first time in 7 sessions. After opening, buying to cover the recent decline spread, and the index remained in positive territory through the close, ending up ¥898.34 from the previous day.
In the previous day's U.S. equity session, the Dow rose $556.21 and the Nasdaq gained 20.16 points, ending higher as a rise in the U.S. PPI for September was offset by lower long-term Treasury yields supporting stock prices. In response, the Nikkei Average opened at ¥64,925.29 on the 16th.
After the open, buying to cover the recent sharp decline spread, driving gains led by semiconductor-related stocks. The index recovered the ¥65,500 level and remained in positive territory through the close, although concerns over AI investment persisted and selling by investors waiting for a rebound was also seen at higher levels. Gains narrowed somewhat toward the close.
