Ishii Foods’ “Ishii’s Meatballs” were introduced in 1974 and will mark their 50th anniversary in 2024. They are made without additives and primarily use domestic ingredients such as chicken and onions. The back of the package indicates that the ingredients are selected to fit naturally into a household kitchen, while the sauce has been made with organic tomato paste since 2023.
Only Bento (Ishii’s Meatballs), made with “Ishii’s Meatballs,” contains rice and 10 meatballs and costs ¥322. Its appeal to a wide range of consumers includes the fact that it can be eaten without heating and its sweet-and-sour tomato sauce flavor. In addition, “Only Bento (Marushin Hamburg Steak),” containing one whole Marushin Foods “Marushin Hamburg Steak,” has been re-released at ¥248, bringing cumulative series sales to more than 5.92 million servings.
