Toho Gas, AISIN, Toyo Construction and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation will jointly launch a demonstration of carbon recycling, including regional e-methane production and supply, after being selected for a FY2026 Ministry of the Environment subsidy program. The project is scheduled to run from October 2026 to March 2031 and will verify a small- and medium-scale distributed model.
Toho Gas, AISIN, Toyo Construction and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation jointly submitted a proposal for the Ministry of the Environment's FY2026 “Subsidy Program for Demonstration of Regional Carbon Circulation Business Models Led by Private-sector Operators” and were selected. The demonstration aims to verify a small- and medium-scale distributed carbon recycling model in the region, including e-methane production and supply.
The project is scheduled to run from October 2026 to March 2031 and will demonstrate 4 elements: CO₂ capture, liquefaction and transport; e-methane production and supply; neutralization and fixation at a managed coastal landfill; and verification of the supply chain and supply-demand coordination system. CO₂ will be separated and captured at AISIN's Nishio Die Casting Plant and AGC's Aichi Plant, while CO₂ from DENSO's Anjo Plant will be transported in gaseous form.
Project partners include DENSO, IHI Plant, AGC and Aichi Rinkai Environmental Development Center. Each will be responsible for CO₂ separation and capture and liquefaction at its own plant, e-methane utilization, neutralization and fixation at a managed coastal landfill, and the allocation of responsibilities among the partners. In addition to verifying a system for liquefying and transporting CO₂ and supplying it as city gas, the project is expected to promote low-energy fixation at the landfill and help ease restrictions on the use of the site after closure.
