Operations of a residential cruise ship were suspended against a backdrop of soaring fuel costs, and passengers were made to disembark in Cambodia. The ship had reportedly been sailing around the world for approximately 755 days.
Operations of the residential cruise ship were suspended amid soaring fuel costs, forcing many passengers who had been staying aboard for extended periods to disembark in Cambodia. The captain explained that the ship’s remaining fuel had reached a critical level and said that 203 people had been forced to disembark.
Monthly fuel costs per cabin had previously been approximately ¥280,000, but recently rose sharply to around ¥1 million. The worsening situation involving Iran has been cited as a cause. After a lengthy voyage around the world, the operator announced that it would suspend operations.
The ship was reportedly sailing around the world for more than 2 years, with all of its passengers staying aboard long term under residential cruise ship contracts. The disembarkation order was reportedly issued as an emergency response.
