The Nikkei Average started the session about ¥580 higher than the previous business day, extending its gains at the open. AI and semiconductor-related stocks were firm on the rise in the SOX in US markets, while a pause in the yen's appreciation also supported buying.
The Nikkei Average opened ¥579.48 higher than the previous business day in the Tokyo stock market and traded at ¥65,600.42. The market was supported by a gain of more than 3% in the SOX in US markets on Friday.
Among individual stocks, Advantest was flat, while Tokyo Electron opened with buying prevailing and SoftBank Group also remained firm. In the automotive sector, Toyota Motor's share price was higher.
Bank stocks were lacklustre, led by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, and did not provide sufficient support for the broader market. A pause in the yen's appreciation was also factored in as a buying incentive.
