The Yomiuri stock index Yomiuri 333 rose for the first time in 3 trading days, closing ¥693.40 higher than the previous day at ¥52,558.93. The Nikkei Average also rose sharply on buying of AI and semiconductor stocks, while the TOPIX advanced as well.
In the Tokyo stock market on the 30th, Yomiuri 333 closed ¥693.40 higher than the previous day at ¥52,558.93, rising for the first time in 3 trading days. Of its constituents, 291 stocks, or more than 80%, rose. The Nikkei Average ended ¥1,272.45 higher at ¥66,753.72.
The market's move was apparently driven by buying of AI and semiconductor-related stocks in Tokyo following gains in major semiconductor stocks in the previous day's US market. Falling crude oil futures and reduced expectations for US rate hikes also encouraged investor buying, and most TSE Prime stocks rose.
Among Yomiuri 333 constituents, Ishiyaku Chemical Kurasasu Chemical recorded the largest gain at 9.17%, followed by SUMCO at 9.08% and Hokuhoku Financial Group at 9.04%. The largest decliners were Murata Manufacturing, down 2.94%, Brother Industries, down 1.94%, and Nichirei, down 1.32%.
The Tokyo Stock Price Index, or TOPIX, rose 67.52 points to 4,108.65, a gain of 1.67%.
