Liberty Media acquired a majority stake in MotoGP, and the execution of a growth strategy similar to that of F1 was discussed. At the Japanese Grand Prix, Japanese rider Ogura Ai (小椋 藍) finished 6th.
MotoGP is popular worldwide, particularly in Europe, and is expanding its following in the United States. The competition consists of 3 classes, with the MotoGP class at the top, followed by Moto2 and Moto3, with brands including Honda and Yamaha competing against one another. A notable feature is Liberty Media’s pursuit of its strategy through a series of acquisitions.
MotoGP Deputy CEO Carlos Ezpeleta (カルロス・エスペレータ) said that Liberty Media is also looking to transform the Japanese market, citing the fact that it acquired an 84% stake in the group in 2024. The acquisition was valued at €3.1 billion.
The Japanese Grand Prix was held at Mobility Resort Motegi, where Ogura Ai (小椋 藍) finished 6th ahead of a strong field. The special event “MotoGP Fan Fest Tokyo,” held in Tokyo, was also featured.
On the business side, attention is focused on expanding attendance under Liberty Media, the owner of F1. MotoGP operates as a 3-class structure centered on MotoGP, with Moto2 and Moto3. Sales and event operations are expanding worldwide, supported by the brands’ strength and engine scale.
