Daiwa Corporate Investment, a subsidiary of Daiwa Securities Group, will partner with an Australian government-backed VC to establish Sakura Fund, with up to ¥20 billion in assets, to invest in advanced Japanese companies.
Daiwa Corporate Investment announced that it will establish Sakura Fund with Main Sequence, an Australian government-backed VC. The fund is expected to reach up to ¥20 billion in size.
The plan is to raise up to A$200 million by year-end from Japanese and Australian companies, pension funds and financial institutions, among others. The fund is expected to promote investment in fields where Japanese companies have established strengths, including quantum technology and food tech.
The fund will target advanced Australian companies and support the growth of their technologies and businesses through investment from Japan. By establishing the fund under Daiwa Securities Group, the initiative aims to expand the supply of capital to Australia’s venture capital market.
The initiative is intended to strengthen collaboration between Japanese and Australian companies and is expected to contribute to improving the investment environment and industrial competitiveness in both countries.
