The Bank of Japan published the “main opinions” from last month's monetary policy meeting, reporting that several opinions pointed toward accelerating the pace of rate hikes in response to upside risks to prices.
Some committee members expressed the view that, given the risk of prices rising above expectations, the pace of adjustments to the degree of monetary easing should be increased. They also pointed to the possibility that the pace of rate hikes could exceed market expectations.
At a press conference the previous day, Governor Ueda (植田) said that it was necessary to remain mindful of the risk of prices rising above expectations, and that the Bank would discuss whether to proceed at upcoming monetary policy meetings.
The next meeting is scheduled for 17 and 18 September.
