The Nikkei 225 suffered its first sharp drop in six sessions, closing at ¥67,460.73. Profit-taking selling in semiconductor-related stocks led the market lower.
Following declines in major U.S. stocks in the previous session, the Nikkei 225 fell sharply toward the end of trading in Tokyo. The index closed down 2.54% from the previous day at ¥67,460.73.
Among individual stocks, semiconductor-related names including Kioxia, Taiyo Yuden and Murata Manufacturing fell broadly, while selling in semiconductor manufacturing equipment stocks weighed on the overall market.
Trading value for the day reached the upper ¥10 trillion range, while trading volume on the TSE Prime Market was approximately 2.214 billion shares. The market’s correction after rising for five consecutive trading sessions through the previous day was a focus of attention.
By sector, some areas including marine transportation and manufacturing remained firm, while declines in electric appliances and nonferrous metals stood out. Movements among the stocks making the largest positive and negative contributions to the Nikkei 225 diverged significantly.
