Izcargo, an enzyme replacement therapy for Hunter syndrome designed to cross the blood-brain barrier, has received manufacturing and marketing approval in Kuwait. The global Phase 3 trial is ongoing, and as the company accelerates expansion outside Japan, its sales agency agreement with Taiba for the Middle East and North Afghanistan region is also progressing.
JCR Pharma announced that it had obtained conditional manufacturing and marketing approval in Kuwait for Izcargo, its enzyme replacement therapy for Hunter syndrome designed to cross the blood-brain barrier (generic name: pabinafusp alfa). Overseas expansion is currently supported by a global Phase 3 trial, as the company pursues international development based on its approval and commercial track record in Japan.
The company entered into a sales agency agreement with Taiba for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with the aim of expanding access outside Japan. This marks the second overseas approval, following the manufacturing and marketing approval obtained in the United Arab Emirates in July.
JCR Pharma President and Representative Director Sonoda Hiroyuki (薗田 啓之) described the approval in Kuwait as an important milestone in expanding treatment options for patients with rare diseases and indicated his intention to work with Taiba to make the treatment available to more patients.
The impact on the company's consolidated results for the fiscal year ending March 2027 is expected to be minor.
