Against a backdrop of growth in the Chinese market and the presence of a local partner, Mister Donut has reopened in Shanghai for the first time in approximately 7½ years and is pursuing a renewed challenge under a master franchise model.
Mister Donut withdrew from China after closing all its stores at the end of March 2019, but decided to re-enter the market. It had been considering a renewed challenge in anticipation of growth in the Chinese market and the potential to adapt to local business practices.
On 28 September, Mister Donut’s Global Harbor store, the first store in the East China region, opened in Shanghai. The store is located at Global Harbor, where Mister Donut previously operated in Shanghai before withdrawing from the market.
The presence of Shanghai Meitian Tian Brand Management, a local partner, was a factor supporting the re-entry. Established on 11 November 2025, the company handles logistics, food service and consulting and is familiar with regional characteristics and regulations.
The renewed challenge adopts a master franchise model, with operations to be developed in line with the needs of the local market.
