South Korea's Kia is bringing the PV5 BEV commercial van to the Japanese market. The lineup will comprise 2 variants, the PV5 Van and PV5 Passenger, with a first-year sales target of 1000 units. Kia aims to drive adoption through a 7-location sales network and the use of subsidies.
South Korean automaker Kia has announced plans to introduce the PV5 BEV commercial van to the Japanese market. The lineup will comprise the commercial PV5 Van and passenger-oriented PV5 Passenger. Kia PBV Tokyo West, the first store directly operated by PBV Japan, has also opened and began operations on 15 May 2026.
The PV5 Passenger is a minivan-style BEV with sliding doors, making it an unusual offering in the current Japanese market. The PV5 Van, meanwhile, prioritises commercial practicality, and pricing for both models in the Japanese market has been announced. There is also interest in the possible addition of a 3-row seating configuration in the future.
The sales target for FY2026 is considered ambitious at 1000 units. The sales network is expected to remain limited to 7 locations nationwide, and some observers believe the target will be more difficult to achieve than Hyundai's results. However, Sojitz Corporation's policy of focusing on sales to corporate customers, together with the availability of the LEVO subsidy program, is expected to provide support.
With the LEVO subsidy, the effective vehicle price of the PV5 Cargo will be approximately ¥4.83 million, with a maximum subsidy of ¥1.964 million scheduled to be provided. If awareness of the sliding-door PV5 Passenger grows, it could attract greater interest from companies that value environmental initiatives.
