Inada Keitaro (稲田 啓太郎) became the eighth-generation president of 鶴屋吉信, a long-established Japanese confectionery shop that has operated in Kyoto’s Kamigyo Ward for 220 years. With his grandmother’s wishes in mind, he plans to develop products with a new sensibility while preserving the shop’s traditions.
Founded in 1803, 鶴屋吉信 is based in Kyoto’s Kamigyo Ward and carries on the tradition and goodwill of a long-established shop with more than 260 years of history. In July, the first change at the top in 26 years took place, with 35-year-old eighth-generation president Inada Keitaro (稲田 啓太郎) taking office. Family support played a role in his decision to become the successor, and the company’s direction emphasizes preserving traditions passed down through the generations and maintaining business stability.
The main store operates from a machiya-style building in Horikawa-Imadegawa. A cedar panel in the lobby features a painting of cranes welcoming customers. For Inada Keitaro (稲田 啓太郎), the main store is a place from his own generation, completed in 1992, and one filled with memories of spending time there with his family, including washing dishes at the café as a child.
A key influence behind Inada Keitaro’s (稲田 啓太郎) appointment as the eighth-generation president was his grandmother, Kazuko (和子). She is described as having become a central figure supporting the family business from shortly before the main store was completed. Inada Keitaro (稲田 啓太郎) is shaping the future of the shop with her teachings and affection in mind.
