The Nikkei Stock Average rebounded in Tokyo trading on the 4th, closing at ¥65,020.94, up ¥806.46 from the previous day. Buying increased following gains in US stocks the previous day, with technology stocks leading the advance.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange Stock Price Index, or TOPIX, rose 1.19 points to 4,103.23, while trading volume was 2.21033 billion shares. Against a backdrop of rising long-term interest rates, the average stock price had fallen for 4 consecutive trading days since 31 August.
In the US stock market the previous day, expectations for an early rate hike receded following a speech by Federal Reserve Governor Waller. Buying orders then spread across the market, with semiconductor-related stocks such as Kioxia Holdings being bought and leading the market higher.
