South Korean President Lee Jae-myung (李在明) is scheduled to make a state visit to France from the 6th to the 9th at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron. A central element of the visit will be his role as co-chair of the Lumière Summit.
On the 8th, following a wreath-laying ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe and an official welcoming ceremony, he will have lunch with President Macron at the Élysée Palace. An expanded summit meeting and a Korea-France business roundtable attended by approximately 20 companies from the two countries are also scheduled. A state banquet is planned for the evening, while on the 9th he is expected to meet with the speaker of the lower house and hold talks with the OECD Secretary-General.
Director Wei (魏) said the visit would strengthen the global strategic partnership with France and provide new momentum for expanding diplomacy toward Europe, and indicated a policy of expanding cooperation in areas including AI, space, nuclear power and biotechnology.
The visit comes as the two countries mark the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and is expected to serve as a starting point for building a new foundation beyond the 140-year mark.
