Hitachi Energy will build a new transformer plant in Mississippi, US, investing ¥80 billion to more than double production capacity. Operations are targeted to begin in 2029.
Hitachi Energy announced plans to build a new transformer plant in Mississippi, US. The investment is valued at $528 million, or approximately ¥80 billion, and will expand power infrastructure to meet rising data center demand. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, and upon completion, production is expected to change from the existing plant to the new plant.
The new plant will be built approximately 10km from the existing Crystal Springs plant, with plans to double the workforce to more than 700 employees. Upon completion, transformer production will be strengthened locally, increasing supply capacity in the US.
Hitachi has been making multiple manufacturing investments in the US and is currently undertaking an expansion of a large power transformer plant in Virginia. Including this new investment, Hitachi’s cumulative investment in its US manufacturing operations is expected to reach approximately $1.5 billion.
In October 2025, Hitachi signed a memorandum of understanding with the US Department of Commerce and outlined a policy of developing energy infrastructure to support stable data center power supplies and the use of AI. The new plant is aligned with this strategy and is intended to accelerate the expansion of local production in the US.
